Why are we here? I can’t answer that on a larger scale – but I can explain the origins of this web site, and I hope that’ll do. 🙂
Your site admin (we’ll call him Flip, because that’s what his friends call him) was once a Lyft and Uber driver. While behind the wheel, he got to meet people from all over the globe. Flip enjoyed hearing about their lives back home, and hearing why they came to visit. He also loved helping them find good food, good music, and more! (Flip is a traveler, and jokes he’s gone all over the world just for food and the music.) So Flip set about making a pamphlet with all kinds of visitor info.
Flip didn’t think too much about its impact, until he gave one to a player for the newly-formed Birmingham Stallions. The player loved it, and said he’d share it with his team-mates, who were all new to The Magic City. That sparked Flip to realize there’s far too much to share about Birmingham, for just one little pamphlet. Also, updates would be difficult. The next step sadly wouldn’t happen until Flip was no longer a rideshare driver.
Flip decided to put the guide online, making it interactive and easier to update. The guide is now for other rideshare drivers to share with their passengers (and for anyone else who finds it on the web). You may have gotten here through a QR code provided to you by your driver. Those drivers – plus their passengers, and anyone else who’s compelled – are instrumental to keeping Birmingham Guide going. Flip would love it if you’d drop a line to help keep the guide strong.
